CAREER TRANSITIONS CASE STUDY – INTRODUCTION

Guest author: Oliver Fink, University of Basel

On our homepage www.transition2impact.com and in our services, we want to support you with true and tested material and approaches. Herminia Ibarra is one of the best career transition researchers, currently professor for organisational behavior at the London Business School, formerly at INSEAD and the Harvard Business School. Her Harvard Business Review article on career transitions is highly recommended, as well her book “Working Identity” if you want some more in-depth background as well as concrete examples of career changes.

Over the next days, we want to provide you with some deeper context into my own career transition story as a case study, selecting some of Ibarra’s most important points that were crucial for how my own transition unfolded. My own career is not particularly special or my transitions necessarily relevant for your own, I simply know it best in terms of motivations, strategic choices and outcomes. There should be some benefit for your own path, even if it means going in a different direction.
